Candle & Diffuser Care

Caring for your candle

We love that you enjoy burning our candles in your home, however there are some important safety instructions that must be followed in order to have the best candle burning experience. The most important thing to remember is that candles are a naked flame and they need to be treated with caution.

We take candle safety very seriously at Luna & Soy Candles and you will find simple safety instructions on the base of your candle. It is important to read these instructions to ensure you are burning your candle safely in your home.

While not much thought might be given to the burning technique of a candle, here are a helpful few tips and tricks that will ensure you get the best out of your candle.

  • Burn your candle for a minimum of an hour, or until the wax pool reaches the edge of the vessel on your first burn as this will prevent tunnelling. By burning your candle so the wax pool reaches the edge of the jar, it will mean that all subsequent burns will burn evenly, therefore maximising burning time and avoid tunnelling.

  • To extinguish your candle, use a snuffer or blow it out gently. This will eliminate black sooty particles from getting stuck in the wax. Lids are not snuffers and not to be used to extinguish flame. This will create trapped smoke and leave blackening and smoke residue in your candle that will effect the scent of your candle on the next burn.

  • We advise that before every burn you trim the wick of your candle. The wick only needs to be approximately 6mm in length to burn effectively. This is because if the wick becomes too large, it can mushroom, causing excess soot and more heat, so will therefore burn through your candle faster, decreasing the overall burn time of your candle.

  • Do not burn your candle for longer than four hours.

  • Always ensure you burn your candle on a stable and heat resistant surface, away from drafts or items that can catch alight.

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended or near children or pets.

Caring for your Diffuser

Reed Diffusers are the perfect way to freshen up a living area without the need for a flame and are the perfect alternative to candles,. The natural fibre reeds continuously release a clean fragrance throughout the space. When placed in a high traffic area, the fragrance will be dispersed with air circulation when walking past, but it won’t necessarily fill the entire space with fragrance.

It's crucial to take good care of your reed diffuser in order for it to keep working efficiently and to retain its aroma for a longer period of time. The following tips will help you take good care of your reed diffuser.

  • Upon first use, place reed sticks in the oil and allow them to soak the fragrance for one hour. Flip the reeds after one hour to saturate the other ends.

  • If the scent is too strong or you are using it in a small space, use less reeds.

  • The place you choose for your reed diffuser should be suitable. Choose a location distant from heat sources and direct sunshine. Ensure diffuser is also placed in an area where there is minimal draft. For example away from a fan, air conditioning or an open window as it will dry the reeds out and enable more rotation of the reeds. This will soak up the oil faster and give less lifetime to your diffuser.

  • To ensure that your reed diffuser continues to release fragrance, it's important to rotate the reeds regularly. This will help the oils to flow up the reeds and into the air. It's recommended to rotate the reeds at least once a week.

  • Due to our fragrances containing natural oils there will be slight variances in oil colour. Overtime your diffuser oil colour may alter which is affected by circumstances such as oxidisation and dust particles that bind to your reeds over time that enter your diffuser through rotation of reeds. Altered colour does not effect your diffusers performance however dust accumalation on your reeds do as it cloggeds the air pockets in the reeds and its ability to diffuse. We suggest replacing your reeds every 2-3 months unless dust blockage suspected earlier.

  • Please keep the diffuser bottle upright at all times. This stops the oil from spilling and keeps the aroma flowing steadily through the reeds. Always seal the bottle firmly if you need to move or transfer the diffuser to prevent leaks.

  • Do not light the diffuser reeds

  • Ensure the reed diffuser is place out of reach of children and pets

  • Ensure the reed diffuser is in an area it will not be knocked over

  • If spilt, clean the area immediately as the liquid can damage surfaces
